University of Liverpool

The University of Liverpool has implemented transom door closers from Alpro Architectural Hardware at its student residences on the south campus, adjacent to the Management School and Law Faculty.

Alpro’s overhead transom closers offer hydraulic control over the opening and closing of aluminium doors, with options for light, medium, or heavy spring strengths, and a 90-degree hold-open feature.

Ideal for university and college environments, transom closers provide flexibility in adjustment, crucial for accommodating the student population, unlike alternatives such as spring hinges or floor springs. The newest accommodation hall at Liverpool caters to around 750 students, reflecting the university’s commitment to enhancing the student experience through significant investments in facilities.

Designed to meet Tourism England standards, the £35m building offers conference accommodation during non-term times, with sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, solar thermal hot water, and green and brown roofs, earning a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.

Alpro’s door handles and general door hardware are also utilised across the Liverpool campus, reflecting the company’s expanding presence in educational institutions.

At the University of Liverpool, EYG Commercial Glazing Solutions installed the aluminium doors equipped with Alpro’s transom closers. EYG, based in Kingston upon Hull, specialises in curtain walling and commercial glazing projects across various sectors, employing over 300 personnel.

Established in 1881 as a university college, the University of Liverpool ranks among the top one percent of universities worldwide, boasting eight Nobel prize winners among its alumni. Notable post-World War Two students include footballer and manager Steve Coppell, and Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow, with a student population exceeding 21,000.
